514 Cannabis x GWNG

Building consistency in every step

Great White North Growers, also known as GWNG, is a licensed cannabis producer based in Quebec. Since its founding in 2013, the company has evolved from an early-stage startup into a multi-faceted operation with both in-house production and distribution services for over 30 other licensed producers, many of them micro-cultivators based in the province.

While the early days involved experimentation with aeroponic systems, the real shift came when the company brought in cultivation director Patrick Pagé. With years of experience in some of Quebec’s top facilities, he was tasked with designing a new cultivation program from scratch. This opportunity became the starting point for what is now the 514 Cannabis brand, GWNG’s in-house product line.

Still 5

A Purpose-Built Facility and a Focus on Scale

GWNG’s cultivation area has grown steadily and now includes over 2,000 square feet of canopy, with plans to double that in the near future. Their weekly water usage sits at around 4,000 litres and is expected to increase as the operation expands. From the start, the team has focused on creating a facility that supports scalable, repeatable processes. Environmental monitoring, room layout and workflow were all considered carefully.

A key part of this setup is the use of CANNA products across the entire plant cycle. GWNG relies on CANNA Coco Flex grow bags, CANNA Coco A and B nutrients, and CANNA Start for young clones. For Patrick, the decision was both practical and technical. Preparing pots manually was not feasible when he was the only grower on site, and Coco Flex offered a direct, time-saving solution.

But efficiency was only part of the decision. The material in the grow bags retains moisture well and supports a hybrid style of cultivation, close to hydroponics, but with some of the buffering benefits of soil. CANNA Start is used at the propagation stage to establish a strong foundation early on, reducing transplant stress and improving root development.

Why Consistency Matters

For GWNG, consistency is not a preference, it is a requirement. Variation in nutrients can introduce variability in crops, which impacts quality and creates unnecessary work. Patrick notes that with other nutrient lines, he would sometimes encounter residue or uneven mixing, which affected application. That has not been the case with CANNA.

From a management perspective, the simplicity and predictability of the CANNA system has helped reduce risk and increase confidence across the team. George Goulakos, co-founder of GWNG, points out that tools only work if they help growers do their jobs without second-guessing the outcome. CANNA has helped remove steps in the transplant process and reduced the chance of user error, both important for efficiency and consistency at scale.

Results on the Product Side

The production outcomes speak for themselves. GWNG has seen measurable improvements in terpene levels, and the sensory quality of their product has improved significantly. What consumers smell in the packaging now matches what they taste, which has helped position their 514 Cannabis line in a competitive market.

As GWNG continues to expand, the team remains focused on quality control and operational stability. CANNA remains part of that foundation, both as a product and as a support system when needed. For the GWNG team, quality is not a goal at the end of the process, it is something built in from the start, and maintained at every stage.

MicroCannabi

Growing with Focus and Consistency

MicroCannabi is a family-run micro-producer located in Quebec. Since 2021, they have been cultivating cannabis on a small scale with a clear commitment to quality and consistency. With just over 2,100 square feet of canopy spread across four production rooms, the company operates on a three-week harvest cycle that allows for a steady and manageable flow of product throughout the year.

From the beginning, MicroCannabi has placed importance on feedback, both from consumers and within the team. Their process is based on careful observation and continuous improvement, which includes making informed decisions about nutrition and growing methods. This practical approach led them to CANNA.

Finding the Right Fit

When setting up their facility, MicroCannabi trialed multiple nutrient systems. Early on, they noticed recurring issues with other brands, including deficiencies in potassium and nitrogen. After testing and speaking with industry peers, they switched fully to CANNA products. Since then, they have reported greater stability across their rooms, fewer adjustments during feeding, and a higher level of trust in the results.

They use CANNA Coco A and B throughout the entire cycle, along with CANNA additives such as CANNABOOST, RHIZOTONIC XP, CANNAZYM and PK 13/14. The straightforward nature of the nutrient line makes it easier to manage, and MicroCannabi has found that following the standard recipes delivers consistent results without the need for constant recalibration.

From rockwool to Coco

Initially, MicroCannabi grew in rockwool using CANNA Substra Vega and Flores. Although this worked well for a time, they found that rockwool required frequent irrigation and produced excess runoff. These inefficiencies led them to test other substrates.

After trialing CANNA Coco Flex, they noticed improvements almost immediately. Coco Flex allowed for better water retention, stronger root systems, and healthier plants. As a pre-buffered, ready-to-use substrate, it simplified their workflow while also improving plant performance. The switch brought higher yields and improved cannabinoid and terpene levels. In particular, THC levels that had previously plateaued around 21 to 22 percent began to reach closer to 30 percent. In one case, their smallest room produced a yield that exceeded the previous average of their largest space.

In addition to plant performance, the switch to Coco Flex reduced labour needs, streamlined their production flow, and lowered operational waste. These improvements aligned with MicroCannabi’s longer-term goals around quality and sustainability.

Collaboration in Practice

MicroCannabi describes their partnership with CANNA as dependable and responsive. The team values the clear communication and quick support, as well as the technical knowledge available when needed. With CANNA products integrated across their entire grow cycle, MicroCannabi can focus on maintaining plant health, managing harvest schedules and refining their genetics.

They take pride in the visual consistency of their plants, referring to the deep green associated with healthy crops fed by CANNA. For them, predictable results are essential — especially in a small-scale operation where every square metre matters.

One of their standout cultivars, Grease Monkey, is known for its high THC potential and aromatic profile dominated by Caryophyllene, Limonene, Farnesene and Myrcene. This variety reflects the core of their approach: stable genetics, well-managed environments and trusted inputs.

Looking Ahead

MicroCannabi continues to grow gradually, with a focus on maintaining quality rather than chasing scale. The switch to CANNA Coco Flex has not only improved plant outcomes but also brought their production model closer to their sustainability goals. Their collaboration with CANNA supports their vision for clean, efficient cultivation and a reliable product that meets both industry standards and consumer expectations.

Green Karat

Stable operations, clean inputs, and strong plants.

Green Karat is a licensed cannabis producer based just outside Montreal, Quebec. Since 2020, they have been steadily building their operation around one clear goal: cultivating high-quality, carefully selected cannabis cultivars. Behind this project stand two founders, Paul and Jean-Fred, who share a longstanding interest in plants and a practical background in horticulture.

DSC00910

Starting with a small setup consisting of a mother room, a veg room, and two flowering rooms, Green Karat has gradually expanded to four flowering rooms. They maintain a close relationship with a nursery that helps manage their mother stock. This steady growth has allowed them to introduce a broader range of cultivars while keeping control over quality.

What distinguishes Green Karat is their emphasis on genetic selection and cultivar development. Their process includes internal research into terpene and cannabinoid profiles and a clear focus on offering plants that meet specific sensory and structural expectations. Their products are grown for both Canadian and European markets, with a limited and intentional range of high-grade cultivars.

Working with CANNA

Green Karat began working with CANNA products after being introduced by a colleague in the industry. What appealed to them was the straightforward two-part nutrient system, which helped reduce complexity in their workflow. With many tasks to manage, simplicity and reliability in feeding were priorities.

Since switching to CANNA Coco A and B, the team has observed stronger plants with fewer deficiencies. They note more uniform growth, stronger roots, and improved flowering. According to co-founder Jean-Fred, a healthy plant results in a better final product, and nutrient consistency plays a major role in maintaining plant health.

To further improve daily operations, Green Karat also transitioned from loose CANNA Coco to the CANNA Coco Flex system. These pre-filled, ready-to-use grow bags have reduced manual labour and helped standardise their substrate approach. The result is a more efficient growing environment with less variability and more time to focus on other parts of the process.

For Green Karat, nutrition is not something to troubleshoot, but something that should simply work. CANNA products support that approach, allowing the team to focus on the things that matter most: stable operations, clean inputs, and strong plants.

Lifecycle Botanics

Experts in clean, consistent plant starts

On Vancouver Island, Lifecycle Botanics has built a reputation as a nursery that delivers clean, consistent and professionally rooted cannabis plants to producers across Canada. With more than two decades of experience, founder Mark Qvist and his team have developed a system that is both highly controlled and deeply informed by practical knowledge of the plant.

Their operation centres around healthy mother plants, which are carefully maintained under strict protocols to prevent stress, disease and viroid transmission. Every cutting is taken in-house, rooted under monitored conditions and subjected to quality checks before shipment. To guarantee only the best plants leave their facility, they routinely overcut orders by at least twenty percent and discard anything that does not meet standard.

IMG-20230222-WA0028

What sets Lifecycle Botanics apart is their attention to detail. From integrated pest management with beneficial insects and microbial agents, to daily monitoring routines and internal documentation, every step is intentional. The nursery also maintains its own laboratory to monitor plant health throughout the full production cycle.

CANNA RHIZOTONIC plays a key role in their process. It is used to maintain root strength and support recovery in the mother plants, especially during high-output periods. This is not about experimenting with products, but using tools that reliably support a system built on precision and consistency.

Lifecycle Botanics is a clear example of how technical skill, structure and the right inputs can lead to high-performing results. Their partnership with CANNA fits seamlessly into a methodical approach where plant quality is not a goal but a requirement.

Cannara Biotech

One of Canada's largest cannabis production sites

Scaling Up While Staying Consistent

Cannara Biotech is one of the largest cannabis producers in Canada. With two major facilities in Quebec, in Valleyfield and Farnham, the company manages cultivation at a scale where every part of the process must be consistent and dependable.

Inside Canada’s Largest Cannabis Producer_ Cannara Biotech’s Success with CANNA Nutrients 0-19 screenshot

1,300 litres of CANNA Substra each week

The Valleyfield facility covers more than one million square feet, including approximately 600 thousand square feet of active canopy. On a typical day, around 100 thousand plants are growing. This requires close to 120 thousand litres of water and roughly 1,300 litres of CANNA Substra nutrients each week.

At Farnham, production is supported by 14 thousand clones in weekly rotation. That site uses around 40 thousand litres of water per day and up to 250 litres of nutrients per week. Combined, the two facilities use approximately 160 thousand litres of water and 1,500 litres of CANNA products each week.

One less thing to worry about

At this level, reliability is essential. Cannara’s team made it clear from the start that nutrients should not be a source of risk. They tested multiple nutrient systems, including dry salt mixes, in search of lower costs or better results. In the end, those systems introduced unnecessary complexity. CANNA’s two-part Substra solution proved to be both efficient and stable across all phases of growth, from propagation through to flowering.

Tailored solution

To make day-to-day work even more efficient, Cannara collaborated with CANNA to introduce a high-concentration version of Substra. This reduced refill frequency and shipment volume while maintaining product performance. The result was a more streamlined workflow without compromising quality.

With ongoing pheno hunts and large-scale clone production, consistency is not optional. Even small errors can affect entire cycles. Using CANNA has helped the team avoid those problems and maintain steady, repeatable outcomes.

According to Steven Allard, Director of Cultivation and Irrigation, the reason is straightforward. Nutrients should not be something you need to worry about. In his words, "CANNA just works."

Cannara Biotech continues to expand with a focus on precision and clean execution. The use of CANNA products supports that approach by removing variables and allowing the team to focus on what matters most: healthy plants and efficient systems.
